"Joseph Curwen his Life and Travells Bet'n ye yeares 1678 and 1771:Of Whither He Voyag'd, Where He Stay'd, Whom He Sawe, and What He learnt."
I, Joseph Curwen, being a freeman of Providence, Rhode Island give ye my testimony of mine character. An importer and exporter by trade, a scholar by inclination. World traveller and investigator of ancient secrets. Originally borne in Salem Village, I exited my parents protection for life at sea at the young age of 15. Nine years passed abroad and I returned and settled in Salem proper after amassing a considerable fortune in my travells. Not too long after I left Salem for the more promising business ventures inherent in the town of Providence. I owne properties in the town of Providence includ'g several residences and some wharfage near Mile-End Cove. Being one of a party of loyal residents who helped rebuild the Great Bridge in 1713 after the terrible Gale. I have subscribed handsomely to the lotteries by which the new Colony House could be built after its destruction as well as to the stone walkway for The Market Parade. Being a God fearing man I have attended as much as could be allowed consider'g my heavy burdens of town merchant to Dr. Cotton's Hill Church, until the pious Deacan Snow started his own congregation across the Bridge, of which I now attend. I live in holy matrimony with the lovely Eliza Curwen, formerly Miss Eliza Tillinghast, daughter of Captain Dutie Tillinghast, a young lady who has real Merit, and our daughter Ann. Ann being the love'ng product of our union under the lord who was christened by the Reverend John Graves of Kings Church.

Despite that little self written public service announcement Curwen is hardly a god fearing, normal, or nice person. Nearly all his life he has searched for magical power. His main resource being the ability to resurrect the dead from "prepared saltes" and than torturing them for their esoteric secrets, so he may be continously increasing his abilities as a magician and sorceror. His libraury is one of the finest collections of rare magic books, which includes the fabled and terrible "Necronomicon" by The Mad Arab. Curwen's Canon comes from the world of H.P.Lovecraft. He is the featured villain in "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". Curwen has knowledge and connection throughout the entire Lovecraft mythos. From his intimate knowledge of the Necronomicon, as well as other Tomes mentioned throughout the mythos, and the spells contained therein, which range from the simple opening of doors to the summoning of "Other Gods from Beyond Space and Time"
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Years of hard life abroad have helped forge a body of considerable strength and vitality and presence, but an equal amount of years involved in laboratory work, in which Curwen shuns sleep and food, have undone some of his youthfull exercise. So what is seen is a man of slight build that still holds an obvious physical strength. His face and posture never give away an age older than about 30-35. His hair an almost sickly tint of yellow and he has greyish blue eyes that seem to look right through people. Curwens most distinguished trait is his voice. A voice deep and it has a quality of tone that is both powerfull and yet eerily hollow. A comanding voice devoid of emotion.
His dress is typical of 18th Century America. He wears the 3 cornered felt hat, an undershirt of white linen tucked in at the breeches, a waistcoat(or vest), the closely cut knee length coat, well fitted breeches, silk stockings, and flat soled shoes. The coat, breeches, hat, and shoes are all black, the waistcoat is grey, and stockings and undershirt are white.
